An Op-Ed is an opinion article that is usually placed in a print newspaper opposite the editorial page and not (as many still believe) an article that offers views contrary to the newspaper in which it appears. The New York Times retired the term op-ed in 2021 because, “In the digital world, there is no geographical ‘Op-Ed,’ just as there is no geographical ‘Ed’ for Op-Ed to be opposite to.” The articles in the opinion section of The New York Times are now referred to as ”guest essays.”
